Africa's strategic importance for the development of the hydrogen industry

As part of discussions on the National Hydrogen Strategy in Germany, the German-African Economic Association (Afrika-Verein der Deutschen Wirtschaft) highlights the importance of Africa as a production base.

According to this organization, in addition to operating factories in Germany, there is an urgent need to cooperate with African countries in the construction and operation of industrial hydrogen production plants. This type of partnership combines the need to produce emissions-neutral energy in Germany with the contribution to socio-economic development in Africa.

To make projects based on existing technology viable, the industry still depends on public support and funds, as well as policies favorable to research and development. The State must create the conditions so that small and medium-sized German companies can assume the investments in this type of projects in Africa.

In partnership with the German State, the construction of a pilot hydrogen production plant in Morocco is underway, and the expectation is that qualified companies from the German private sector will take advantage of this project to acquire on the ground experience.
