Angola creates Mineral Resources Agency

In line with the reforms that have been carried out by the Government in the main sectors of the Angolan economy, the newly created National Agency for Mineral Resources (ANRM - Agência Nacional de Recursos Minerais) replaces the company Ferrangol.

Its function is to regulate and inspect the activities in the geological and mining sectors, and this agency will absorb staff from Ferrangol, the National Directorate of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, and ENDIAMA.

The latter maintains its activity in mining operations in the diamond sector, while ANRM takes over the role of concessionary.

For now, the state-owned company SODIAM maintains its role in the commercialization of diamonds produced in Angola. However, in line with the ongoing reforms, the creation of a Diamond Exchange in the country is also planned.

The oil sector underwent a similar restructuring with the creation of the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG - Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis) in 2019, which took over the responsibility for the concessions in Angola, while Sonangol focuses on production and related activities.
