Germany to steadily reopen economy under agreement between Government and States

As the COVID19 infection rate drops across the country, Germany’s federal Government and the 16 states agreed on certain measures to ease the lockdown while certain restrictions will have to remain in place. The reopening of all shops and some recreative sports will take place on a national level provided specific conditions are met. Schools will also reopen gradually on all levels.
It will be within the purview of the states to allow the reopening of venues such as hotels, gyms, restaurants, universities, and cinemas, amongst others. The respective infection rate will determine the gradual reopening of such venues, while states will also continue to decide on the relevant social distancing measures.
At all times, the progression of the infection will be monitored and in case the level rises beyond 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within 7 days, new restrictions will apply to avoid a wider outbreak of the disease.
